1 person dead after ‘active shooter’ leads to U.S. Army installation lockdown in east Georgia

One person has died after an “active shooter” and lockdown at a U.S. Army installation in east Georgia on Saturday morning.

Fort Eisenhower officials say a person was shot and killed in on-post housing. That person’s identity has not been released.

The shooter has been taken into custody and a spokesperson for Fort Eisenhower says the incident “appears to be isolated.”

They have not commented on the identity of the suspect or possible motives.

Officials posted on official social media pages that they were initiating lockdown procedures just before 9 a.m.

About an hour later, officials said “the dangerous event” had passed and the lockdown was being lifted.

They initially told those “in danger” to “take appropriate action.”

A spokesperson for the installation told WJBF-TV there was an “active threat” and no one was allowed on or off the post. The gates have since reopened.

Fort Eisenhower is located near Augusta.
