The 2024 Ford Mustang GT takes on a Porsche 911, Tesla Model Y, and GMC Denali in a series of quarter-mile drag races.
The 2024 Ford Mustang GT recently showcased its quarter-mile prowess at Island Dragway in Great Meadows, New Jersey, where it faced off against an eclectic lineup of competitors, including a Porsche 911 Carrera, a Tesla Model Y, and a GMC Yukon Denali. This exciting series of drag races was captured by the ImportRace YouTube channel, offering viewers a glimpse into the versatility and competitive spirit of Ford’s iconic pony car.
Race 1: Ford Mustang GT vs. Porsche 911 Carrera
The first race saw the blue Mustang GT line up against a 996-generation Porsche 911 Carrera, a model once celebrated for its water-cooled boxer engine. The Mustang’s 5.0-liter Coyote V8 delivered a stellar launch, thanks to an exceptional reaction time, leaving the Porsche struggling to keep pace. The Mustang crossed the finish line in 12.25 seconds at nearly 117 mph, while the aging German sports car trailed behind with a time of 14.27 seconds at 92 mph.
Race 2: Mustang GT vs. Tesla Model Y
The second contest pitted the Mustang against a modern foe—a Tesla Model Y. Despite the Mustang’s strong start, the Model Y’s instant electric torque allowed it to recover quickly and surge ahead. The Mustang, hindered by traction issues in the first 50 yards, couldn’t reclaim its early advantage. The Tesla claimed victory with a time in the 12-second range, while the Mustang slipped into the 13-second bracket in this round.
Race 3: Mustang GT vs. GMC Yukon Denali
The final showdown featured an unexpected rival: a GMC Yukon Denali. While the SUV’s V8 power is commendable for its class, it was no match for the Mustang GT’s performance-focused engineering. The Mustang easily secured its second win of the day, solidifying its dominance over the Denali with a decisive finish.
The seventh-generation S650 Ford Mustang GT proved its mettle at the dragstrip, delivering impressive performances against a diverse field of competitors. While it fell short against the electric power of the Tesla Model Y, its victories over the Porsche 911 Carrera and GMC Yukon Denali showcased its versatility and enduring appeal. As the last survivor in the muscle car segment, the Mustang GT continues to carry the torch for combustion-powered performance, proving that it’s far from ready to ride off into the sunset.
