SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — San Diegans are banding together to help victims of the Los Angeles County wildfires, as they face a long road to recovery.
From businesses to nonprofits, the outpouring of support for fire victims locally has been on full display. South Park Yoga and Wellness on Beech Street is among those working to extend some relief. The studio’s co-owner, Marilyn Klisser, said she had to do something to help. “My husband and I have been watching the news night after night, and it is just heartbreaking to see what all of these people are going through,” said she told FOX 5/KUSI.
Massive smoke plume billows from Los Angeles — is it headed toward San Diego?
Klisser added that at the same time she wants members of the community to take a breather. “It’s stressful for people just watching this on the news and empathizing for the people that this is happening to. It’s just a lot,” she explained.
South Park Yoga and Wellness will host two hour-long donation-based classes on Sunday starting at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. All of the proceeds raised will go toward helping firefighters and victims.
People all across San Diego are already stepping up to help. FOX5/KUSI checked back with Flying Pig Pub & Kitchen in Oceanside and their donations are already piling up just a day after putting out feelers.

John Van Zante with Rancho Coastal Humane Society in Encinitas said they are also collecting items for pets in Los Angeles. “Dog food and cat food; both dry food and wet food. Shampoo is something if pets been out there and stuck and they’re dirty,” said Van Zante. Other items the nonprofit is collecting include towels, blankets, gloves, kitty litter, and crates.
The organization is also accepting monetary donations to help peoples’ pets in Los Angeles. You can find more information here. For other ways to help click here.
