Grass Fires Disrupt Fourth of July Celebrations in Abilene

An Independence Day fireworks show in central Texas was disrupted on the night of July 3, after two grass fires broke out in the area, local media reported.

Drone footage filmed by Jayson Starkey shows fire hotspots burning near Wylie High School in Abilene on Wednesday night.

According to the report, one fire erupted about a minute into the show WesTex Connect Fireworks Spectacular which temporarily halted the show. Several minutes later, “the glow of a second, larger grass fire” was visible and ended the fireworks event.

Early Thursday, Abilene Fire Department said a grass fire was extinguished next the school and no structures were damaged.
