WOODBRIDGE – A 22-year-old Woodbridge man is charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault after hitting his stepfather with a hammer several times, said Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Director Robert Hubner of the Woodbridge Police Department.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the assault that occurred on Saturday.
At 6:42 p.m. police responded to a residence on Sherry Street following a report of an unconsciousman who suffered blunt force trauma to the head. Authorities found a 48-year-old township man, who was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick where he is currently in critical condition.

Preliminary investigation led by Detective Perry Penna of the Woodbridge Police Department and Javier Morillo of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that the victim’s stepson, Ronald Javier Polanco-Barrera, struck his stepfather with a hammer several times in the head.
Polanco-Barrera was charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault, third-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
